Info
The Telescopes bring their shape-shifting project to Neue Zukunft in Berlin on 25 April 2026. Formed in 1987 around Northumbrian songwriter Stephen Lawrie, the group has never fixed its form, moving from solo recordings to large ensembles. Early singles on Cheree and What Goes On, then a move to Creation for Taste (1989) and the self-titled album (1992), mapped an approach that drifts between noise pop, shoegaze, neo-psych, space rock and drone, where melody and abrasion share the same space. Halo Moon, their 17th album and sixth for Tapete Records, took shape under unusual circumstances, a halo appearing above the studio on day one and setting the tone for sessions that lean on repetition, textures and slow-blooming intensity.
Special guest Scattered Purgatory, an experimental project from Taiwan, operates where noise, industrial textures and ritual pulse meet. Their pieces unfold as dense, immersive layers: harsh fragments rubbing against steady, repetitive figures, tempos stretched to a meditative sway. Themes of collapse, renewal and altered states run through their sound, channeled with a physical charge and a hypnotic undertow that keeps the focus on movement rather than climax.
