Colin James, the Vancouver-based singer-guitarist, moves between electric blues grit, rootsy acoustics and vintage swing. Since his 1988 debut he has juggled power-trio fire with horn-driven Little Big Band escapades, and quieter detours like National Steel with Colin Linden. On stage he stitches sharp riffs, supple grooves and a soul-leaning voice, drawing on blues standards and originals from records like Traveler, Blue Highways or Open Road for sets that slide from jump-blues snap to road-tested rock.
Born on the Prairies and long tied to Winnipeg, Streetheart shaped a melodic strain of Canadian hard rock and AOR at the turn of the 80s. Guitars are dense, keys up front, vocals straight down the line; the catalogue runs from Meanwhile Back in Paris… and Under Heaven Over Hell to Quicksand Shoes, mixing originals with reworked classics. In concert they revisit that material with riff-forward energy and the keyboard hooks that marked their early years.
