On 16 April 2026 Patronaat in Haarlem will be dedicated to gritty Australian punk: Cosmic Psychos are coming, a band that formed in Victoria in the early 1980s and has since stuck to a blunt, no-nonsense sound. Fronted by bassist/singer Ross Knight, the trio works with heavy, repetitive grooves, sharp, snarling guitar riffs and a rasping voice, with lyrics full of dry humor, rural life and working‑class culture. Their punk draws on the energy of the Australian pub rock circuit: little frill, lots of drive, songs built on a propulsive rhythm section. Their first records appeared on the independent circuit, with a self-titled debut in 1987, followed by Go the Hack (1989) and Blokes You Can Trust (1991), which helped the band gain a foothold and tour Europe and the US. The aesthetic remained spare and purposeful, often edging into grunge and noise rock, rooted in the DIY networks of venues, festivals and labels.
Good Sniff from Australia opens the evening and sets the tone before Cosmic Psychos take over.
