Christian Kjellvander

On 18 March 2026 Christian Kjellvander will appear at the A-Theater in Groningen. The Swedish songwriter, partly raised in the U.S., places Americana alongside Scandinavian indie and lets the two slowly merge. Since his days with Loosegoats and his solo debut Songs from a Two‑Room Chapel he has been building a catalogue of slow, spacious songs, guided by a low voice and narrative lyrics as his compass. On stage he shifts between a pared‑down setup and a more electric glow; guitar lines stretch time, percussion keeps a calm pulse, and silence carries as much weight as sound.

The set draws on more than twenty years of work: The Rough and Rynge, The Painted Tree, About Love and Loving Again and Hold Your Love Still form the backbone, with room for older gems that helped shape his course. Themes move from intimate rooms to wide horizons, from small everyday fissures to slowly shifting landscapes. Now and then a darker hue emerges from his collaboration with Tonbruket on Doom Country. An evening focused on storytelling, where every note is given time to land, in a venue that can sustain his austere intensity.
