Opeth

Opeth will play on 5 August 2026 at TivoliVredenburg, Utrecht. Since the late 1980s the band around singer-guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt has been shaping a sound in which death metal and prog rock converge. Early records like Orchid, Morningrise and My Arms, Your Hearse set the tone: long compositions, growls alongside clean vocals, acoustic interludes and structures that nod to the 1970s. With Still Life and Blackwater Park there was more room for atmosphere and detail, further developed on Deliverance and Damnation. From Heritage onward the compass shifted decisively toward vintage prog, a direction continued on Pale Communion, Sorceress and In Cauda Venenum.

Live, Opeth is about contrast and tension: heavy, technical passages that open into melodic lines, layers of keyboards and subtle dynamics, with a rhythm section that keeps a tight grip. The band draws from its entire catalogue and switches effortlessly from dark riffs to cinematic melodies. Expect a set that unfolds patiently and carries you from heavy to fragile and back again, with the detailed songwriting that has characterised the Stockholm outfit for years.
