Info
Shalamar plays on 25 June 2026 at PHIL, Haarlem. The collective formed in Los Angeles in the mid-1970s around the TV show Soul Train and grew from a studio project into an R&B and soul-funk trio. With Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniel and Howard Hewett, the group built a recognisable sound on SOLAR Records under the guidance of producer Leon Sylvers III: tight harmonies, smooth basslines and rhythms that immediately steer you toward the dance floor.
From the disco tilt of Uptown Festival and Disco Gardens to the more refined blend on Big Fun and Three for Love, and onward to the early-eighties touch of Friends and The Look, Shalamar moved organically from a live-band sound to a more electronic palette without losing its R&B core. Jeffrey Daniel’s stage presence and dance moves helped define that era and gave street dance a visible place in their shows.
In Haarlem, Shalamar will dive into that repertoire from the ’70s and ’80s, supplemented by later chapters. Expect a set built on compact grooves, memorable melodies and interlocking vocals. An evening where soul, funk and pop cross paths, presented by a band that keeps its history alive on stage.
