Richard Thompson

Info

On 12 June 2026 Richard Thompson will play at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. The London-born guitarist and songwriter came to prominence in the late 1960s with Fairport Convention, one of the cradles of British folk-rock. In 1971 he chose a solo path; his debut Henry the Human Fly (1972) set the tone for a catalogue in which acoustic ballads, electric tension and reworkings of Anglo‑Saxon folk intersect.

In the mid-1970s he released albums with Linda Thompson, including I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight (1974), where dry humour and gritty stories found their place. Thereafter Thompson steadily continued, dividing his time between the United Kingdom and the United States, with studio and live albums and an almost uninterrupted life on the road. Titles such as Rumor and Sigh (1991), Mock Tudor (1999), Electric (2013) and 13 Rivers (2018) mark that trajectory.

On stage his melodic, assured guitar playing is central, rooted in British folk and open to rock and country, with songs that arrive as short narratives. In Eindhoven he will bring that broad songbook to life, with material from different periods that moves smoothly between intimate and energetic, without frills but with a focus on musicianship, lyrics and dynamics.
