Big Sugar bring their blend of heavy blues-rock, hard rock crunch and reggae/dub pulse to The KEE to Bala in Bala on June 28, 2026. Led by guitarist-singer Gordie Johnson, the Canadian outfit moves between thick, riff-forward songs, deep bass lines and offbeat rhythms, with space for stretched breaks and a touch of psychedelia. From early club days to records like Hemi-Vision and Eternity Now, they’ve shaped a live sound that balances weight, groove and a laid-back Caribbean sway without losing the bite of electric blues.
Opening, Wide Mouth Mason set the tone with blues-soaked rock from Saskatoon. Built around Shaun Verreault’s guitar and voice and Safwan Javed’s drums, the group threads funk and soul accents through compact, rootsy arrangements, focused on taut grooves and clear melodies. Longtime peers of Johnson in the studio and on tour, they bring a shared language of riffs and rhythm that connects naturally with Big Sugar’s live energy.
