Ne-Yo first made his mark as a songwriter before stepping out with In My Own Words, then Because of You and Year of the Gentleman. Across Libra Scale, R.E.D., Non-Fiction, Good Man and Self Explanatory, he blends soulful R&B with hip-hop‑leaning production and clean pop structures, later folding in dance and electronic textures. Akon, raised between the U.S. and Senegal, builds bridges between R&B, hip-hop and pop with a steady pull from African rhythms.
