Codefendants bring their crime wave blend to Modern Love in Calgary on April 4, 2026. Born from the meeting of rapper-singer Ceschi Ramos, Sam King of Get Dead, and Fat Mike of NOFX/Fat Wreck Chords, the trio stitches punk instinct to alternative hip hop and shadowy pop. On stage, Ramos and King trade verses and hooks with a back-and-forth that shifts from slow-burn ballads to ska-tinged bursts, alt-rock angles and straight-up rap, while the project’s punk backbone keeps everything tense and clear-cut.

Their 2023 album This Is Crime Wave set a template for songs that stay tight yet leave space for narrative detours, spoken passages and guest cameos. Live, that approach turns into a set that moves between grit and melody, with guitars threading through rap-driven rhythms and vocal lines that carry a low-key melancholy. The show leans on the chemistry of the two front voices and the DIY links between California punk circles and independent hip hop, with guests adding to the cross-pollination at the core of Codefendants.
