Matt Andersen: The Hammer & The Rose Tour

Info

Matt Andersen brings The Hammer & The Rose Tour to Kelowna Community Theatre, Kelowna, on March 1, 2026. Rooted in New Brunswick and constantly on the road between North America and Europe, the singer-guitarist moves between blues, folk, soul and roots rock. His acoustic-driven playing anchors songs that trace everyday lives and open landscapes, carried by a voice that leans into grain and warmth rather than showy effects. From Second Time Around and Coal Mining Blues to Weightless, Honest Man, Halfway Home by Morning and The Big Bottle of Joy, his catalogue threads ballads, mid-tempo grooves and rougher cuts, the kind that take a different shape on stage whether he’s solo or with a band.

Mariel Buckley joins the bill from the Canadian alt-country scene. Based in Alberta, she blends Americana, alternative country and folk rock, favoring slow-burn and mid-tempo songs shaped by overdriven guitars and a low, steady voice. After Driving in the Dark, Everywhere I Used to Be pushed her writing toward a more cinematic, introspective mood, circling themes of the road, family ties, doubt and identities that sit off-center from the norm. On stage she shifts between intimate restraint and electric sway, a clear counterpoint to Andersen’s roots edge.
