Info

On June 2, 2026, 16 Horsepower will bring their dark, folk- and country-tinged Americana to the Kulturkirche Köln. Founded in the early 1990s in Denver, the band centered around singer and multi-instrumentalist David Eugene Edwards — with collaborators such as Pascal Humbert and Jean‑Yves Tola — is known for a spare, angular sound that sits between rural folk, hints of bluegrass and the energy of post‑punk. The lyrics draw on biblical imagery; the moods recall traditional Appalachian music without abandoning the foundations of alternative rock.

With releases such as Sackcloth ’n’ Ashes, Low Estate, the mostly Europe-recorded live album Hoarse, Secret South and Folklore, 16 Horsepower have forged a signature in which electric tension and acoustic intimacy lie close together. Live, this translates into clear arrangements with plenty of space, taut rhythms and melodies that build slowly and then sharpen into a cutting intensity. In Cologne, 16 Horsepower will span their repertoire — from early recordings to their folkier shades and traditional pieces — demonstrating why their name still sits at the crossroads of alt‑country, Gothic Americana and neofolk.
