On May 8, 2026, Plini and his band take center stage at the Columbia Theater in Berlin. The Australian guitarist has pursued an instrumental solo project since the early 2010s, combining melodic lines with progressive structures. Positioned between rock and metal, with traces of jazz-fusion and serene ambient surfaces, he relies on dynamic arcs of tension and odd time signatures. Releases such as the EPs Other Things and Sweet Nothings (2013), The End of Everything (2015) and the album Handmade Cities (2016) have shaped his sound; Sunhead (2018), Impulse Voices (2020) and the most recent EP project Mirage (2023) expand that vocabulary. Live, Plini presents these pieces with a tightly knit ensemble that faithfully captures the studio arrangements while opening them up flexibly.
Sungazer, the New York duo of bassist Adam Neely and drummer Shawn Crowder, brings a blend of jazz-fusion, electronic textures and prog energy. Asymmetrical meters, drum’n’bass–influenced grooves and modern harmonies form the framework; the compositions alternate between clearly notated sections and short windows for improvisation. After singles and two EPs, Perihelion (2021) marks the current state of their sound, adapted live into a more open format that precisely adjusts dynamics. Together they deliver a set that swings between club aesthetics, the prog scene and more experimental environments.
