Info
On 24 May 2026 at the NEC, Marly, the Marly Jazz Festival brings together East Acces and the James Carter Organ Trio. Born in Detroit and active since the late 1980s, James Carter alternates between saxophones and clarinets, including the bass clarinet. His playing spans swing, hard bop, blues and freer idioms, and combines reworkings of standards with original compositions. He has undertaken projects dedicated to Django Reinhardt and Billie Holiday, which attest to his appetite for engaging in dialogue with the history of jazz.
With his Organ Trio, Carter places the organ at the centre of the group. The trio leans on rooted grooves and tight arrangements, creates breathing room for improvisation and exploits contrasts of timbre. Mixed repertoire and a fluid movement between written material and freedom: a format well suited to the saxophonist’s sonic palette.
East Acces completes the bill, alongside the trio.
