Info
On June 17, 2026, Black Country, New Road takes over MTELUS, 59 Rue Sainte-Catherine Est, Montréal. Formed in London in 2018 around the Brixton Windmill scene, the group brings bass, drums, guitar, saxophone, violin and keyboards into an experimental rock framework fed by post-rock, post-punk and art rock, with patterns that lean toward jazz and klezmer. Noticed with the 2019 singles Athens, France and Sunglasses, they released For the first time in 2021, then Ants From Up There in 2022 with Isaac Wood before his departure. Since then, vocals are shared, the writing turns more melodic and close to chamber song, a shift captured on Live at Bush Hall in 2023.
Horsegirl opens with a Chicago-bred guitar sound that threads shoegaze, noise rock and post-punk. The trio of Penelope Lowenstein, Nora Cheng and Gigi Reece grew out of DIY all-ages rooms and low-key digital releases, keeping a tight link to their local network. Their tracks hinge on textured guitars, fragmented melodic lines and shared vocals that slide between clear singing, unison and spoken parts. Signed to Matador, they shaped this approach on Versions of Modern Performance in 2022 and have since taken it on the road across North America and Europe.
