Matt Andersen

Info

Matt Andersen brings his blend of blues, folk, soul and roots rock to Winnipeg on February 24, 2026 at the Burton Cummings Theatre. Raised in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, the singer-guitarist made his name on Canadian and European stages with acoustic-led songs rooted in everyday stories and rural backdrops. From Second Time Around and Coal Mining Blues to Weightless, Honest Man, Halfway Home by Morning and The Big Bottle of Joy, his catalogue moves between intimate ballads and rougher, full-band moments. On stage, he shifts easily from solo storytelling to a warmer, grooving sound with his touring group.

Opening, Calgary songwriter Mariel Buckley threads alt-country, Americana and indie rock. After Driving in the Dark, she sharpened her cinematic tone on Everywhere I Used to Be, leaning into slow or mid-tempo strides, saturated guitars and a low, steady voice. Her lyrics explore the road, family ties, doubt and identities slightly out of step, carried by arrangements that keep a link to classic country while nudging it forward.
