Info

New York hardcore band Gorilla Biscuits brings its fast, melodic youth crew sound to The Pearl, Vancouver on Monday, March 2. Formed in 1986 around singer Anthony “Civ” Civarelli and guitarist Walter Schreifels, the group shaped a compact style built on brisk tempos, chanted choruses and lyrics about friendship, choices and DIY culture. After a 1987 demo, a self-titled EP landed on Revelation Records in 1988, followed by Start Today in 1989, a key release for the melodic side of the NY scene. The members later moved through projects like Youth of Today, Quicksand and CIV, keeping close ties with the wider hardcore network, before regrouping from the late 1990s for periodic shows in North America and Europe.

On stage, Gorilla Biscuits leans into tight arrangements, quick turns and sing-along refrains drawn from a catalog designed for collective energy. Vancouver will catch the band in a room where that direct, no-frills approach carries the set, with songs that balance speed, melody and a straight-ahead sense of community.
