Thumpasaurus is a Los Angeles outfit where funk, punk and experimental pop collide. Formed in the mid-2010s by musicians connected to the University of Southern California, the band works like a tight core that welcomes collaborators, feeding a collective writing style shaped by humor, shouted choruses and bass-forward grooves. They fold in disco hues, new wave nods and a touch of jazz, favoring repetitive hooks and sharp tempo shifts. Their 2018 album The Book of Thump captured that mix in the studio while keeping the live spirit—stripped-back staging, intentionally rough-around-the-edges moves, and a direct line to the crowd. Across singles and EPs, the project keeps pushing this hybrid palette with a DIY backbone tied to LA’s alternative scene.
