Formed in Chicago at the end of the ’90s, Rise Against fuses punk rock and melodic hardcore, carried by Tim McIlrath’s voice and a tight, no-frills engine room. Over the years, the band has moved from breakneck hardcore to more structured, chorus-forward songs, shifting between sprinting tempos and mid-tempo tension. Destroy Boys comes from Sacramento’s DIY circuit. Led by singer-guitarist Alexia Roditis and guitarist Violet Mayugba, the trio blends fast punk with pop-punk bite, garage grit and a touch of grunge. Their songs go straight to the point—identity, relationships, gendered violence, mental health—balancing urgency and melody across Sorry, Mom, Make Room and Open Mouth, Open Heart.
