On June 25, 2026, as part of the Jazz à Vienne 2026 Festival, the Théâtre Antique in Vienne brings together two major voices of European jazz: Italian saxophonist Stefano Di Battista and Franco‑Swiss trumpeter Erik Truffaz. The evening is conceived as a dialogue between timbres, compositional approaches and ways of inhabiting the groove.

Stefano Di Battista, an alto saxophonist with a supple phrasing, draws on the hard bop heritage as much as on Mediterranean colours. He favors clear themes, contrasts between tension and release, and a collective interplay that encourages exchange. He leads through singing lines, precise solos and an energy that flows without effort.

Opposite him, Erik Truffaz widens the scope. His trumpet brushes against electronic textures, urban pulses and atmospheres close to film music. He sculpts the space, sets down pared‑back motifs and weaves sonic layers that allow rhythm and melody to breathe.

On stage, their worlds intersect across original compositions, rearrangements and improvised passages. At the Théâtre Antique in Vienne, this meeting unfolds at the crossroads of acoustic lyricism, contemporary pulse and shared territories of exploration.
