He also comments on his “fifty‑something” — that not‑quite‑round milestone he faces with detachment and self‑deprecation. And he takes us to an old‑fashioned Christmas at his famous sister’s, with Bernard, the brother‑in‑law of unshakeable composure, for a clear, unvarnished family portrait. Through a succession of stories and characters in which anyone can recognize themselves, Sellig strings together the scenes, paces the material and transforms the ordinary into living theatre, with precise language, lasting images and a measured sense of rhythm.
