Ruel

Born in London in 2002 and raised in Sydney, Ruel Vincent van Dijk, known as Ruel, developed early on a songwriting style focused on contemporary pop shaded with soul and R&B. Discovered in his teens by Australian producer M-Phazes, Ruel began his career with a run of singles that established an expressive vocal aesthetic, driven by direct melodies and introspective lyrics. The EP “Ready” (2018) marked a first structured milestone, followed by “Free Time” (2019), where Ruel honed a more intimate register, and “Bright Lights, Red Eyes” (2020), recorded abroad and oriented toward a softer, more contemplative pop. His debut full-length album, “4th Wall” (2023), synthesizes these phases by bringing together slow ballads, mid-tempo cuts, and tracks more rooted in alternative pop. On stage, Ruel has toured extensively in Australia, Europe, and North America, alternating between opening slots for international artists and headlining shows. Occasional collaborations with M-Phazes and the group Hilltop Hoods place Ruel within a network where pop intersects with hip-hop and electronic music, while keeping melodic writing and sustained vocal craft at the center.
