Butter Funk Family

In Los Angeles, Butter Funk Family is a large collective led by Printz Board, dedicated to a contemporary reimagining of funk. A trumpeter, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Printz Board builds on experience gained with acts such as Black Eyed Peas, Mark Ronson and CeeLo Green, bringing together around thirty musicians from various countries. The ensemble centers on a core lineup that includes Eric England on bass, Nadav Peled on guitar, Jay Flat on saxophone, Dylan Elise on drums, Khris Purkson on trombone, and several vocalists such as Sam Pounds, Alana Hil and Nic Jackson. Anchored by a regular residency at the Black Rabbit Rose in Hollywood, the group refines a sound in which funk remains central but blends with soul, R&B and a strongly live-driven energy, supported by a dense horn section and rhythmic bass lines. This approach is showcased on the EP Downtown, released in 2023, which features tracks like “Dumb Dumb,” “The Light” and “Downtown,” developed from jams and ideas that emerged during soundchecks. At the same time, Butter Funk Family is building a stage presence across the United States, Europe, South America, Africa and Oceania, and is preparing the EP Facts, set for 2025, which will include songs such as “Love Power,” “Somethin Crazy” and “Six Shooter,” all rooted in the 1970s funk legacy while adapted to a contemporary context.
