On May 12, 2027, Supergrass land in Portsmouth at the Portsmouth Guildhall for a set built on the band’s signature mix: punkish snap, bright British pop hooks, and that alternative-rock edge that always kept them a step sideways from pure britpop. Formed in Oxford in the early 90s around Gaz Coombes, Mick Quinn and Danny Goffey (with Rob Coombes later cementing the live and studio lineup on keys), they broke through fast with the rush of “Caught by the Fuzz” and the instant, wired-up momentum of I Should Coco, before sharpening their songwriting on In It for the Money.
What makes a Supergrass show work is how quickly they move between moods without losing pace: tight, concise riffs, choruses that lock in straight away, then sudden detours into denser arrangements and different colors picked up across later records, from psychedelia to glam touches and more reflective tones. After splitting in 2010 and returning in 2019, they’re back onstage with the same collective punch—built for loud singalongs and clean, no-fuss rock’n’roll playing.
