On December 16, 2026, Digable Planets touch down at the New Morning in Paris to remind us of what jazz-rap has at its most vibrant: a supple, precise hip-hop that breathes and grooves without forcing it. Born in Brooklyn in the late 1980s, the trio led by Ishmael 'Butterfly' Butler, Craig 'Doodlebug' Irving and Mary Ann 'Ladybug Mecca' Vieira marked the early 1990s with a rare formula: samples drawn from jazz and soul, laid-back rhythms, and an erudite rap, nourished by urban narratives and political consciousness. On stage, one again encounters the alchemy that powered Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) and the classic 'Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat),' which became a hit and earned a Grammy in 1994. It's also a chance to dive back into the denser atmosphere of Blowout Comb, and to gauge how Digable Planets opened an alternative path in American hip-hop, far from poses and clichés.
