Info
On January 30, 2027, Nubiyan Twist lands at Opium in Dublin with its trademark big-collective energy: a moving lineup built around composer and guitarist Tom Excell, where horns, voices and rhythm section lock in and constantly reshape the music. Born in Leeds in the early 2010s and now operating between Leeds and London, the band sits right at the crossroads of contemporary jazz, afrobeat, soul and hip-hop, with a strong dose of African influences.
Expect tight arrangements that still leave space for improvisation, grooves that can switch gears fast, and songs that balance brass-driven punch with more soulful, vocal-led moments. From the early statement of their 2015 self-titled album to Jungle Run and Freedom Fables, Nubiyan Twist has kept refining that hybrid sound on record, but it’s on stage that the whole thing really comes together: a fluid ensemble, built for momentum, interaction, and collective lift.
