Info
On May 18, 2027, Groundation will descend on Patronaat in Haarlem, with a set centered around "A Tribute to Bob Marley." The group from Sonoma County, Northern California, has since the late 1990s built a distinctive form of roots reggae around vocalist and guitarist Harrison Stafford, heavily nourished by jazz harmonies, improvisation, and dub. Live, that means long tracks that take their time, with syncopated rhythms, room for expansive instrumental passages, and a horn section that not only colors but truly drives the whole forward.
In this Marley tribute, the focus is on the spirit and heritage of seventies Jamaica, without Groundation losing its own signature: soulful singing, keyboards and guitar weaving together in the background, and lyrics that touch on Rastafari, spirituality, and social issues. Do not expect an exact reconstruction, but an evening in which classic repertoire is opened up and propelled anew by a band with a distinctive live reputation.
