On April 21, 2027, Sammy Rae & The Friends will perform at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht with their Brooklyn-based collective around singer and songwriter Samantha 'Sammy Rae' Bowers. Expect a show that thrives on interplay: brass that fans the flames, a tight rhythm section, and keys that swing as easily toward jazz-pop as toward soul and funk, with rock- and folk-tinged edges where possible. Live, it sounds as if a band wants to groove and tell stories at the same time: plenty of ensemble arrangements, choral-like refrains, and a pop sensibility that holds it all together. The set may feature songs from EPs such as The Good Life and Let’s Throw a Party, alongside material from Something For Everybody, their first studio album. The open-hearted spirit of Songs We Wish We Wrote also suits this evening: a band that doesn’t treat covers as a pause, but as an extra chapter in the same collective energy.
