There's no need to look far to understand the tone of Cactus. By giving his new show at the Espace Agora the name Cactus, Elie Semoun signals the tone: it will sting.
For 30 years, the comedian has established himself as one of the most incisive and offbeat stand-ups on the French scene. His style, which blends finesse and audacity, has inspired many generations of artists.
For his eighth show, Elie Semoun makes a slight turn: stand-up now occupies a more prominent place, a novelty for him. But don't be fooled, Cactus remains faithful to his love of characters. Among the gallery of his new monsters, you will meet Jean Abdul, who will open for him, a son who takes his father to visit a nursing home, Xavier, a mobility-impaired man, who introduces his wife to his mother, a father confronted with his son's transition, a racist karate instructor, or a biting look at sexual harassment and religion.
With Cactus, Elie Semoun offers a vision of our society that is both deep and light, oscillating between violence and inspiration, where the themes of intolerance, taboo, and injustice are tackled without sugar-coating, with the incisive edge that characterizes him.
