Punk in Cherbourg: a Halloween evening like no other at Espace Buisson.

Burning Heads (punk rock – Orléans)
Truly legendary figures of French punk, the Burning Heads have been touring for nearly forty years without ever losing their edge. Formed in Orléans in the 1980s, the band has shown how to evolve its identity by blending punk hardcore, reggae, dub and alternative influences, while preserving an intact live energy. With a prolific discography and hundreds of concerts to their name, the Burning Heads continue to unite several generations of fans around a punk that is free, sincere and explosive.

Lion's Law (streetpunk/oi! – Paris)
A reference point of the oi! and streetpunk scene today, Lion's Law has established itself as one of the most respected French bands internationally. A regular on European punk festivals, the quartet has toured the world with an intensity that never wanes. Between unifying anthems, crowd-chorused refrains and raw energy, Lion's Law delivers powerful shows where oi!, streetpunk and hardcore meet.

86 Crew (working class reggae – Paris)
For more than twenty years, 86 Crew has stood as a safe bet on the French ska-reggae scene. Driven by a generous brass section, an inexorable rhythm and committed lyrics, the band develops a sound drawing as much from two-tone ska as from Jamaican roots reggae. Familiar with European stages, 86 Crew turns each performance into a collective, festive and energetic celebration.

The day before, for those interested, there will be a screening and a talk and a meet-and-greet around the documentary Punk Is Not Really Dead?!, directed by Lionel Boisseau (France 2023, 52 min), on Friday, October 30 at 6:00 pm in the Paul Éluard Hall, in partnership with the Cherbourg-en-Cotentin libraries.

Through a journey between past and present, the film traces the history of the French punk scene, long kept in the shadow of its English and American sisters. It explores the multiple branches of alternative rock: from Bérurier Noir to today’s activists, including fanzines, independent labels and collectives engaged around ecology, inclusion, and minority rights. For while punk music has evolved, the DIY spirit continues to live on and inspire new generations.

After the screening, a meeting and a discussion will bring together actors and witnesses of this history, with a nod to the university project PIND – Punk Is Not Dead, devoted to memory and the collection of punk archives in France (fanzines, labels, testimonies...).
