On February 1, 2027, Thunder Bay’s Community Auditorium hosts a night that stitches together three different angles on guitar-and-synth pop.
Men Without Hats arrive with Ivan Doroschuk still steering the ship, tapping into that Montreal new wave DNA: keyboards up front, tight repetitive grooves, and choruses built to stick. From the early pulse of Rhythm of Youth through the more guitar-leaning Pop Goes the World, their set is a chance to hear how their sound kept shifting without losing its direct, sing-along edge, right up to their more recent releases.
Spoons bring the Burlington, Ontario side of the same era, led by Gordon Deppe and Sandy Horne. Expect that mix of crisp synth-pop, twitchy guitars, and pop melodies that made their early-80s run so distinctive, with songs shaped for the stage and a band that’s kept returning to its electronic spark across the decades.
Opening the bill, Chattanooga duo The Cle Elum cut in with compact indie rock and power-pop drive, melodic harmonies, and sharp, road-tested writing from their debut It’s Ok If It Falls Apart and the newer material pointing toward their next record.
