On November 27, 2026, Toronto’s The Opera House hosts Takuya Nakamura, a Tokyo-born trumpeter, keyboardist, producer and DJ who’s been shaping his own lane between jazz improvisation and electronic pressure since landing in the US in the early 90s. Trained at the New England Conservatory under George Russell, he brings a sharp sense of harmony and structure to music that still moves like a club set: tight rhythms, broken-beat energy, and that constant push-and-pull of a live band.
Based in New York, Nakamura has navigated scenes where jazz, jungle and electronic music overlap, and that hybrid mindset is what drives his performances: part composition, part real-time conversation. Known for work alongside projects like Jojo Mayer’s Nerve and collaborations with artists such as CocoRosie, Quincy Jones, David Byrne and Arto Lindsay, he comes to The Opera House with a sound built on groove, texture and collective momentum.
