Phara, Serkin

Phara offers a complex and contemporary vision of techno without losing touch with the essence of the genre. Influenced by the pioneering sounds of Detroit, Berlin, and the United Kingdom, as well as by post-punk, wave, EBM and electro, they create personal tracks that overflow with energy.

After breaking onto the international scene with the album Next Of Kin on Black Sun Records, their subsequent experimentation with a range of classic hardware synthesizers and outboard effects led them to an analog-focused practice and to a string of EPs that found homes on labels such as Fuse Imprint, SK Eleven, and Stockholm LTD.

Finally, their need to move forward quickly drove the creation of Phaaar, the record label that serves as an additional outlet for their own music.

Phara's production method feeds off the club—and the club feeds off it: the groove and power present in their records move and interlock in the same fluid motion on which they rely as a DJ.

They spin vinyl-only sets that navigate the intersection of fast tempos, industrial atmospheres and dubbed-out pulsations, backed by a collection of classics. Their entrepreneurial spirit, their understanding of dancefloor dynamics, and their precise mixing skills earned them a full slate of engagements and a residency at Fuse, the techno club in their hometown, Brussels.

In 2022, they ventured into new territory and debuted their live show, carrying the Korg EMX-1, a machine they know inside out, from the studio to the main stage. These performances embody Phara's approach. The fusion of propulsive drum sequences, detuned chords and thunderous bass unleashed from what is their favorite piece of gear rescues and reimagines the power of classic techno.

In the summer of 2024, Phara presented In Glass, a new live project dedicated to a more spacious and immersive approach to electronic music. Centered on slower tempos where the kicks have room to breathe, chords float through space and the harmonics play a central role, In Glass serves both as a challenge and an escape from their usual comfort zone.

The project's first EP, scheduled for release in February 2025 on Phaaar, embodies this spirit: layered soundscapes with diverse textures inspired by the cold winter days, sustained by the tensions and textures that remain an integral part of Phara's sound.
