Unité.22 : Vel, Maelita

Another double bill to celebrate contemporary techno at Unité.22, 22 Rue Jobin in Marseille, with the arrival of VEL and her evening partner, Maelita.

A key figure on the Moroccan techno scene, VEL is a regular on Marseille getaways, and she returns for her very first hometown show almost two years after the release of her first album, There Is a Solution.

We loved her purely ambient project, Cuddle Protocol, where one can hear the maturity of an accomplished artist.

We admire the finesse she has brought to contemporary techno production on the French scene.

Capable of leading the audience down the steep paths of club science in the same way as her evening counterpart, Maelita is also among those artists who inspire, through her approach to electronic music, her ability to blend rhythms and musical identities to create a bubbling broth of sensations, emotions and bodily movement. Acid house, IDM, breakbeat, trance—so many sounds to discover at the heart of a set crafted by the French DJ and producer.

VEL
Originating from Rabat, Vel discovers electronic music upon arriving in Lyon for engineering studies. A first night at Le Sucre marks a turning point and draws her to devote herself fully to club culture. Since 2022, she has been a resident there.

Her universe moves freely between techno, trance and ambient. Guided by percussion, she crafts sets in constant motion, playing with contrasts of rhythm, texture and intensity rather than adhering to the codes of a single genre. After several EPs, she released her first album There Is Always a Solution in 2024, and in 2025 founded her label PURR, on which appear notably two compilations and her ambient album Cuddle Protocol.

MAELITA
An artist at the crossroads of genres, Maelita moves between bass music, break, downtempo and slow trance. Her musical approach blends depth and experimentation to create atmospheres ranging from intensity to introspection.

Among her latest releases, Wifi is Shit on the Attraction Corp compilation, This Is How We Preak Your Toxic Positivity, No More Daddy Issues on Craquages VOL.1 (Craquage Collective), Significant Other on Soft Limits VOL.1 and Calimuchoon on Everybody Trance Records, Maelita reveals a personal sonic universe where texture manipulation and rhythmic contrasts fuse with vibrant and hypnotic atmospheres.

Her career has led her to perform on stages such as Nuits Sonores and PEF, while leaving her mark on the Everybody Trance collective through curating the Washclub night alongside Aloka.

Today, Maelita continues her sonic exploration with her residency on Noods Radio via the Synodig show, using music as a vector for questioning and dialogue. She is currently working on a new EP and developing a live set, offering audiences new sonic adventures.
