The Savage Rose – 60-year anniversary in 2027

In 1967, five musicians and a singer gathered in a basement in Søborg, and across different musical genres a new form of music was created here. A new musical era that broke with a stagnating Danish culture opened the door and spread to the world like a wild rose.

The Savage Rose became a cultural-historical adventure that, over sixty years, has defended its integrity and musical freedom. Aware that they were an expression of progressive culture, The Savage Rose has dedicated their musical language to liberation, social justice, resistance to war and oppression, and to freedom, peace, and love of life.

The Savage Rose's music and songs have been embraced and across generations have created communities not only in Denmark but in many parts of the world, including in Philippine slums and children's camps, the Palestinian refugee camps, imprisoned progressive musicians in Turkey, and anti-apartheid and peace movements in the USA.

The debut album The Savage Rose was released in 1968, and it helped revolutionize Danish rock while also defining it as an independent art form. Since then, it has produced 26 albums, both artistic and commercial successes, and records released in small print runs. There have been albums released by major established labels and others recorded at their own expense and released on small alternative labels, because the message and content were important.

The Savage Rose has released albums with more than twenty years between them, including Death's Triumph, Wild Child, and Black Angel. And with the latest releases Universal Daughter (2007), Love And Freedom (2012), Roots Of The Wasteland (2014) and Homeless (2017), Annisette and The Savage Rose demonstrated that there was life in the band even after parting with the long-time central composer Thomas Koppel, who died in 2006.

The Savage Rose today is a contribution to the culture's ecosystem. The Savage Rose is in constant development and has together forged a shared musical consciousness that encompasses history across generations and the unifying spirit and soul of music and song, reaching far into the future. A band that unfolds life's light and shadows and refuses to be steered. A wild child. A wild rose. But with clear messages to us all as opponents of war and fascism and for everyone's right to love, peace, and freedom.
