On April 28, 2027, Simple Minds bring their European Tour 2027 to the Lanxess Arena in Cologne. Since the late 1970s, Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill have stood for this distinctive blend of post-punk roots, synthetic textures, and expansive melodic rock moments—a blend that has continually redefined itself over the decades without losing its core. Live, the sharp New Wave energy of the early years confronts the broader stadium-dramatic scale of later records, with songs that swing between driving rhythms, atmospheric guitars, and instantly recognizable hooks. Level 42 will be the supporting act. The band, led by Mark King and Mike Lindup, hails from the jazz-funk and fusion sphere, but early on made the leap to a more pop-oriented 1980s sound in which groove, synths, and choruses go hand in hand. Mark King's distinctive basslines and Lindup's keyboards supply the forward drive that keeps their classics buoyant to this day—a kickoff that opens the evening sonically to perfection.
