Soul, funk, and gospel, blasting at full volume from the analog, deeply human feeling of an old vinyl, is the religion of which this veteran Chicago DJ is one of its chief apostles.
He is the DJ of DJs. The underground of the underground. The purist of collecting. The unmatched digger. The champion of vinyl devotion to the utmost. The apostle of the most arcane Black music, be it soul, gospel, funk, disco, boogie, or deep house. All of those things are embodied at once by Sadar Bahar, the New Jersey-born, Chicago-based DJ.
Just by noting that he cut his teeth DJing with Frankie Knuckles, one of the legends of Chicago's early house, almost says it all. The hallmark of his parties, "Soul in the Hole," captured on the compilation "Sadar Bahar Presents Soul In Hole (2012)", reflects the euphoric vibe that seeps from any of his sessions: a hole of rhythm and groove from which you won't want to leave and can't escape.
