From the electronic music scene in Frankfurt am Main, Roman Flügel has, since the early 1990s, pursued a career that traverses house, techno, acid and ambient with a flexible approach, often minimal but never strictly functional. Initially involved in the label ecosystems Ongaku, Klang Elektronik and Playhouse, Flügel also pursued numerous parallel projects, notably the duo Alter Ego with Jörn Elling Wuttke, whose work helped define the 2000s. As a solo artist, Flügel has refined a more personal language, composed of acidic lines, dry rhythms, discreet melodic motifs and textures that borrow as much from electro as from a form of abstract pop. His discography under his own name includes Fatty Folders (2004), Themes (2016) and All the Right Noises (2021). As a DJ as well as a producer, Flügel moves between clubs and international festivals, with sets that reflect the breadth of his references, from groove house to more experimental forms of electronic music.
