The North American pioneers of psychedelic cumbia are back after a long hiatus and will perform in Paris for the first time in more than ten years, under the big top at Cabaret Sauvage.
In 2008, Chicha Libre launched the first wave of psychedelic cumbia and chicha in North America with their debut album, Sonido Amazónico (Barbès Records / Crammed Discs). The album paid tribute to Peruvian musicians of the 1970s from Lima and the Amazon, who were the first to fuse tropical rhythms, electric guitars, electronic organs, and psychedelic sounds. The group continued its musical exploration with several albums, including Canibalismo, asserting a free, modern and psychedelic sound, before touring the world.
After a long interruption, Chicha Libre returned to the stage with a series of concerts in Peru, Mexico, Canada and the United States, and this summer begins its first European tour in almost ten years. The group is currently preparing a new album, expected in early 2027, and has recently collaborated with Los Mirlos, Jovanotti, Son Rompe Pera, Los Bitchos and La Sonora Mazuren.
