Nate Smith arrives in Barcelona to present his project as a bandleader on November 2, 2026 at Sala Apolo. As the drummer and a leading composer of contemporary jazz, his playing draws on the genre’s most classical language, but he unabashedly opens up to funk, soul, and certain psychedelia, with a very pronounced groove and a pulse that never misses a beat. In his music, acoustic swing coexists with electric textures, with room for improvisation and for melodic ideas built from the drums themselves. Since his arrival in New York in the late 1990s, Smith has left a mark alongside musicians such as Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Ravi Coltrane, and José James, and in parallel has solidified his own distinctive sound on albums like Workday and the Kinfolk series, where he blends contemporary jazz, songwriting, and rhythms inherited from R&B and hip-hop.
