Dead Poet Society lands in Manchester on February 3, 2027, at Manchester Academy, with its taut and upfront alt-rock. Born in Boston around four musicians who passed through the Berklee College of Music, the band builds its songs on compact riffs, a driving rhythm that tightens the screws, and a melodic vocal that hooks without smoothing the whole thing out. One thinks of grunge and post-grunge, but with a cleaner production and sometimes noisy textures that scratch beneath the surface.
After a series of EPs that laid the groundwork, Dead Poet Society broadened the format with the album -!- (2021), where the writing expands in scope while preserving that tension-and-release dynamic. Having since settled in Los Angeles, the quartet pushes the dynamics further on Fission (2024), playing more with breathing room and shifts in intensity. Live, it translates into a tense, precise set, for those who like heavy guitars without tipping into metal.
