Formed in Bologna in 1979 around Jacques Fred Petrus, Mauro Malavasi, and Davide Romani, Change quickly established itself as an Italo-American project with a variable geometry: instrumentals crafted in Italy, vocals recorded in the United States, and a sound that navigated between post-disco, funk, and R&B. The group built itself without a fixed lineup, surrounding itself with singers and musicians depending on the track, featuring notable names such as Luther Vandross on The Glow of Love (1980), followed by vocalists like Diva Gray, James Robinson, or Deborah Cooper. Over the course of its albums, from Miracles (1981) to Sharing Your Love (1982), Change refined its writing and drifted toward a more defined R&B, before continuing to mutate in the mid-1980s, notably with the contributions of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on Change of Heart (1984). On May 7, 2027, at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend-on-Sea, ‘The Very Best of Change’ revisits these different periods, blending laid-back grooves with melodies crafted for the dance floor.
