They return to take their place. Not out of nostalgia. Out of steadfastness. Since 2006, La Maison Tellier has moved outside the mainstream, without chasing the angle or the buzz. Timidité des arbres, a gift they gave themselves to celebrate twenty years spent in music celebrating the simple joy of living, sits within this trajectory of organic folk music, with French in the lyrics, free from posturing. American without folklore, French without affectation. A hybrid of influences, somewhere between Calexico, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Jean-Louis Murat. The album is also dedicated to the latter, as well as to Shane MacGowan, two artists who held on and never let go of the song as a lifeline.
Timidité des arbres isn’t a comeback album. It is a record of continuity. An album for those who have known, since La Chambre rose, Sur un volcan, Amazone, Haut bas fragile, or Exposition Universelle, that enduring does not mean yielding, and that still and always believing in songs is not an escape, but a choice. © Azimuth Productions
