Loreena McKennitt

On 27 February 2027 Loreena McKennitt will perform at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. The Canadian singer, harpist and composer works at the intersection of Celtic folk and what is often called world music. Her songs echo Irish and Scottish traditions, but also draw colours from the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern regions. Poetry and travel writing more often provide the impetus: alongside original compositions she presents arrangements of traditional melodies and literary texts, in which the narrative layer is as important as the arrangement.

On stage McKennitt builds her music around harp and piano, supported by an acoustic ensemble with strings and percussion. The result moves from intimate ballads to instrumental passages, with room for rhythm and for the voice to come to the fore. The setlist typically draws from several periods of her work: The Visit, The Mask and Mirror and The Book of Secrets remain anchor points, while later chapters such as An Ancient Muse, Lost Souls and Under A Winter’s Moon demonstrate the breadth of her repertoire.

A concert that clearly delineates the line between tradition and her own signature, in an understated, acoustic setting in Eindhoven.
