On 17 September 2026 at Manchester Academy, The Jayhawks mark four decades with a set that spans their catalogue. Formed in Minneapolis in the mid-80s around Gary Louris, with longtime partners Marc Perlman, Karen Grotberg and Tim O’Reagan, the band bridges alt-country, roots rock and folk rock with close harmonies and songs that shift from sparse acoustic moments to full-band arrangements. The night looks back to Blue Earth, Hollywood Town Hall and Tomorrow the Green Grass, moves through Sound of Lies and Smile, and returns to the stripped focus of Rainy Day Music, before touching on later chapters Paging Mr. Proust, Back Roads and Abandoned Motels and XOXO, where writing and vocals are shared across the group. Guitars ring, organ underlines the melodies, and voices blend at the chorus, a sound anchored in melody, harmony and steady grooves. Forty years on, The Jayhawks line up the songs that shaped their road.
