The Smithereens come back on stage in Dublin, at The Grand Social, on September 24, 2026, carrying that tight, punchy New Jersey guitar sound they’ve been honing since 1980. Born between Carteret and Scotch Plains, the band built its identity on short formats, ringing riffs and melodies that nod to 60s pop, with a denser East Coast drive that tips into college rock and alternative without ever losing the hook.
From the early singles and the Beauty and Sadness EP to the run of albums that shaped their cult status, The Smithereens have always played the balance between pop energy and a darker edge: Especially for You, Green Thoughts, 11, Blow Up. Later records kept that economy of writing intact, while side projects and tributes showed their love for classic songwriting, including work around the Beatles’ repertoire.
Since Pat DiNizio’s passing in 2017, Jim Babjak, Dennis Diken and Mike Mesaros have kept the live story going with guest vocalists, and the set naturally draws from every era, from sharp power-pop staples to deeper cuts, with the same no-frills intensity.
