Lowertown

Lowertown bring their off-kilter indie rock to Belgrave Music Hall in Leeds on 3 September 2026. The New York-based duo of singer-songwriter Olivia Osby and multi-instrumentalist Avsha Weinberg moves between bedroom-pop intimacy and a rougher indie edge, and returns with Ugly Duckling Union, a record shaped by a much-needed reset after years of creative friction. It opens on a calm exhale and leans into lean hooks, odd corners and a freer, more playful way of writing that suits their chemistry on stage.

Known for frank reflections on the melancholia of youth, Lowertown shift the lens here with a clearer, self-aware tone. Weinberg speaks of moving from knee-jerk reactions to more considered lyrics: Mice Protection teases Osby’s indecision, Forgive Yourself faces shame with blunt compassion, and I Like You a Lot traces the physical rush of infatuation. Live, the duo often expands with a full band, sharpening the contrasts that run through their songs—spoken fragments, suspended melodies, clipped rhythms and sudden surges—while keeping the rough, intimate core that defines Lowertown.
