The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (TKDE) explores the space between sound and cinema. Founded in 2000 by Jason Köhnen and Gideon Kiers, the project began as live reworkings of soundtracks for silent films such as Metropolis and Nosferatu.
The ensemble expanded to include Hilary Jeffery (trombone, effects), Charlotte Cegarra (vocals) and Eelco Bosman (guitar). Their improvisation and cinematic approach combine ambient, doom, jazz, post-rock and experimental electronica.
Live performances feature visual and sound elements, often with abstract film projections.
