Info
On 12 June 2026 at Bold Tendencies in London, British composer Oliver Leith revives Garland, a large-scale work for orchestra and chorus with words by Charlie Fox and costumes by Ellen Poppy Hill. Commissioned by Bold Tendencies and conceived for its car park, the piece turns the site into both instrument and stage, bringing together around 130 performers in a continuous procession of sound, music and song.
Alongside the orchestral forces, Garland folds in bespoke handmade instruments—tuned corrugated plastic straws, whirly tubes, button whistles, planks of wood and ceramic shards—plus everyday objects such as shopping trolleys, bicycles, scaffolding poles and a horse, widening the sonic palette and the choreography of the space.
Built as a collective project, the work assembles professional and amateur singers with artists close to Leith’s practice. This revival reunites the original cast: soprano Patricia Auchterlonie, EXAUDI, GBSR Duo, 12 Ensemble, percussionists Sam Wilson, Craig Apps and Jake Brown, with MUSARC and the Bold Chorus. Conductors Naomi Woo, Jack Sheen and Oli Kitching lead the performance, assisted by Tristan Weymes.
