Joshua Idehen

In 2018, on the turbulent Your Queen Is a Reptile by Sons of Kemet, a voice stood out amid percussion and winds: Joshua Idehen’s. A British–Nigerian poet and musician, he has since made the word the centre of his work, where spoken word intersects the cadence of rap and an Afrofuturist imagination. On stage, Idehen’s precise declamation meets the beats and textures of Saturday, Monday, the producer with whom he creates a space led by the vocal. That presence plays with a double tension — healing and threat — alternating intimacy and confrontation, personal testimony and social observation.

In Lisbon, Idehen brings this laboratory to a concert format that breathes contemporary jazz and dancefloor electronics: rhythms that verge on house and broken beat, pauses that make room for the word, sampled horns and dry bass. On 1 October 2026, at Casa Capitão, the performance offers a direct, physical journey through his writing, with the voice guiding every rhythmic detour and image.
